Across the shallow gravel crossing, the far side rises onto a broad firm bench a little above the stream. The turf is deeper here, interrupted by clusters of low woody shrubs reaching from knee to waist height in the most sheltered pockets. Their narrow leaves are dark green above and paler beneath, flashing when the wind turns them. The bench stays mostly dry underfoot and gives a longer view both along the valley and back toward the saddle. The higher pale country remains visible farther up-valley beyond darker ground.
