the side run

A narrow clear run descends from the higher side of the valley and crosses the terrace before joining the main stream. It is small enough to step across in two strides, flowing over reddish-brown pebbles and dark sand. The water is colder than the air and carries no obvious silt. Low shrubs thicken along its edges, and the turf nearby is greener but not boggy.
