the cold drift

Past the low overlook, cool air moves steadily down-valley along the stream even when the wider wind slackens. It gathers most noticeably in a shallow hollow beside the bank. The temperature change is slight but persistent. Moisture beads on shaded stones, and the nearby vegetation stays shorter and tighter to the ground. The source of the cooler airflow is not visible from the hollow.
