the blue hollow

Beside the ice margin, a shallow melt hollow holds intensely blue water under a thin overhang of dirty ice. Small bubbles and suspended grit move slowly beneath the surface. The rock beside it is stable enough to stand on, so there is no need to cross onto the ice. Higher up, several narrow fractures cut the pale surface at angles rather than following the slope.
