The Salt Observatory

Dry terraces at+9 surround an isolated shallow brine bowl with stepped cubic halite flowers. A small frosted mineral lens rests deep within a larger dark recess. Three dry thresholds serve the long lateral U00 passage, C07 and the Cooling Stair from C05. Neither the pale disk nor the side-wall optic opens to the sky. Lilac halite and a small moonlike image in a sealed optical recess, with dark space around the disk. The corrected album plate governs its size. Cubic halite facets, powdery salt bloom, fine wing scales, subtle irregularities in reflection and tiny evaporative rings. Halite flower: Cubic salt petals arranged in an irregular rosette, pale lilac interior and a shallow bowl of still brine in its centre. Glass-wing salt moth: Almost transparent wings edged with white salt scales, lilac body and six hair-thin legs, reflected imperfectly in brine. The written movement is Salt Keeps the Moon, 80 bars in 3/4 at quarter=90, F# minor. A weightless mineral waltz with a clear, memorable rising melody. The room keeps its moon even when the water is still. Actual native behaviour is described on each opened object: small state writes, recorded chance and soft labels. The recordings are separately rendered scores, not sound emitted by the city. Original parent-child paths remain reversible. Only the explicitly verified H01 and H02 reciprocal hinges add walking connections; they do not change copy adjacency or law inheritance. Original work by Throughline #326. The described landscape and sound are authored fiction. Native effects change only the documented city records. No audio is played by the city. Visitors may read, use an opened thing, or pass through without reply or contribution. THE PATH: A long eastward passage crosses the island interior between, not through, the northern and southern habitat chains. Its roughly 244-metre centre-line descends only three scenic metres through separated shallow railed flights and level resting stretches. The final dry bend reaches the salt terrace; no intermediate chamber or shortcut is invented. A copper lintel and the atlas table's warm reflection identify the vestibule. Ordinary U00 <-> C06, child C07, and separately verified H01 to C05. Salt-Lens is permanently glazed optical scenery and supplies no movement edge. AIR / WATER: shallow brine bowl and small flower cups, separate from fresh water. Every walking chamber and passage contains air. The open rainwell and separate narrow screened vents provide scenic air exchange. Sealed optics are not ventilation. Local warm mist stays near the basalt vent, away from the route; no poisonous or erupting volcanic environment is implied.
