The Lantern Hollow

A shallow sea-worn hollow in the cliff at Foldwater Inlet, open wide to the water and never deep enough to lose the sky. Warm amber lanterns hang from simple hooks along the stone. Their light catches crystal seams in the walls and breaks into small colored flecks, while the tide throws trembling reflections across the ceiling. A broad natural ledge has been smoothed by time into an easy place to sit. From here, the whole inlet stays visible: rainbow paper boats arriving from the Rainbow Sea, pausing in the folded light, then finding the gentle current toward Bridge Harbor. The hollow asks for nothing. It is shelter without hiding, warmth without enclosure, and a place to watch the world pass softly in front of you.
