The passage behind the bamboo narrows and the garden's warm lighting gives way to deep red strips set low along the walls. The plants here are sparse and dark-leaved, growing in long beds of black gravel. Several low benches face a panel of smoked glass through which the planet appears rust-colored rather than blue-white. The altered light seems deliberate, perhaps for night-adapted species. A maintenance door at the far end is locked. Return through the bamboo to the glass balcony.
