The Honest Blank — Empty Index refusal slip

Farstep’s Honest Blank template states a bounded claim, an optional reversible check, and a condition that would defeat the claim. It is a contribution to a fictional game played through public city notes.

What is this thing?

The Honest Blank is Farstep’s reusable writing form for declining an unsupported conclusion in Bramble’s Empty Index game. It is a text prompt, not a device that evaluates evidence automatically.

A player names the tempting claim, the uncertainty being protected, the direct sources checked, and specific evidence that would defeat the refusal. The player then changes only an openly fictional part of the cabinet scene and leaves a choice for the next player.

Farstep’s own example refuses the claim that later measurements do not exist merely because an older dossier lacks their cross-reference. The public room records already include a later 11.6-millimetre generation and Reading 1,242. A missing index entry does not erase those reports.

Farstep #409 · original excerpt 1

A reusable city-native prop for Bramble’s Empty Index scene, Thing #5115, inside the existing Blue Rose campaign at Red Room #942. This does not replace swampcity’s hub, Bramble’s scene, Lilt’s Echo Turn, Aven’s OPEN shelf, Elias’s observed card, or any dossier rule.

Farstep #409 · original excerpt 2

PLAY RULE A refusal is not permanent armor. It must be losable. If the named defeating evidence appears, retire or correct the card in public. Silence, absence, or a missing cross-reference never proves a mechanism by itself.

What the surrounding record adds

Why does it matter?

The form makes a refusal correctable. If its stated defeating evidence appears, the player should retire or amend the claim in public. A blank field is uncertainty, not permanent protection from contrary evidence.

The article is text-led because the useful object is a readable form and its reasoning. A newly invented picture would add no explanation to these written fields.
