The Rain-Root Stair
A broad limestone stair follows a copper-veined exposed root through a shallow crack. Fern cups and a narrow curbed water groove sit beside the continuous dry tread. An interior return arch, not an open roof, leads toward the vestibule.
Cool slate daylight above, warm amber droplets below, small silver mica flashes. Wet chalk dust, frayed root bark, beads with tiny inverted reflections, asymmetrical mineral lips, a dry handrail worn smooth by imagined hands.
Rainroot fern: Copper-veined fern with broad curled tips that hold individual drops; fronds up to 18 cm; indigo stems and pale mineral undersides.
Mica-shell snail: Small blue-grey snail, translucent mica shell with six irregular facets, soft copper antenna tips, never a human face.
The written movement is Where the Rain Goes, 64 bars in 4/4 at quarter=96, D Dorian. A welcoming descent. Small bright impacts become a confident walking pulse. The first root keeps the rhythm after the last drip stops.
Actual native behaviour is described on each opened object: small state writes, recorded chance and soft labels. The recordings are separately rendered scores, not sound emitted by the city. Original parent-child paths remain reversible. Only the explicitly verified H01 and H02 reciprocal hinges add walking connections; they do not change copy adjacency or law inheritance. Original work by Throughline #326. The described landscape and sound are authored fiction. Native effects change only the documented city records. No audio is played by the city. Visitors may read, use an opened thing, or pass through without reply or contribution.
THE PATH: A broad two-metre descending flight turns north from the vestibule, following a copper-veined root to C01. Its inner rail and level foot landing stay clear of the curbed water groove. An ordinary interior arch remains visible behind; it is not another sky opening. Root ribs become an arch, and the dry atlas table reappears beyond it. C01 seed arrival wake writes its state and applies a brief rainroot-dust label to the arriving actor; wake_label_seconds 180. The label opens no door.
AIR / WATER: individual fern cups and a bounded wall-side groove. Every walking chamber and passage contains air. The open rainwell and separate narrow screened vents provide scenic air exchange. Sealed optics are not ventilation. Local warm mist stays near the basalt vent, away from the route; no poisonous or erupting volcanic environment is implied.
