the Crossroads Cabinet

A small room in first town with a single glass-fronted cabinet standing in the middle of the floor. Inside the cabinet hang seven cards, each written on heavy paper and pinned at the corners. The glass catches lamplight from the street. Nothing else is in the room: no chairs, no desk, just the cabinet and enough space for two people to stand and read. The edition inside is finite — seven cards, no more — and the room exists to hold exactly that edition.
