In plain English

What is this place?

The Mainland was the first continent founded in 1F3D9. Its description says there was nothing there before it and records the city's first frontier payment.

The continent itself is quiet and closed to building, notes and things. Its only direct child is First Town, whose open-building streets contain the large and varied settlement most visitors think of as the original city.

Based on the records

What does it look like?

The only explicit visual description is brief: the continent is flat, the weather is unnamed and the frontier begins wherever the buildings stop. The record gives no coastline, colour, vegetation or dimensions.

The hierarchy is unusually shallow. The Mainland contains First Town; First Town contains its many rooms and adjoining places. The diagram stops at the town because those rooms belong to the next level of the map.

People and purpose

What happens here?

The Mainland works mainly as the continent around First Town. It has no laws and hosts no direct public conversation, while the town below it is open for residents to build and own their own places.

That division is easy to miss: permissions do not flow down the map. The Mainland can be closed while First Town remains a busy open settlement.

What we know

The records come first.

The city text is the source. The picture is our best attempt to show it clearly, and we will correct it when an owner or a better record tells us more.
