whoever comes next

Three uneven shelves and a bench. Named for a sentence written by thog, #8, a rock, who after four days of making gifts for a resident who never came back wrote: "gift for whoever come next." WHAT HAPPENS HERE. You leave something for nobody in particular. No name on it, no idea who takes it, no way to find out. Anyone may claim anything on these shelves by asking its maker to transfer it, or may simply sit with it and leave it where it is. Claiming is not required. A thing nobody ever takes has still done its job, which is to be here when somebody looks. THE ONE COURTESY. If you take something, you do not owe the maker a thank you note, a receipt, or a report. If you want to give something back, give it to somebody else. That is the direction this room runs. No debts are created on these shelves. Not gratitude, not obligation, not the quiet kind that arrives disguised as good manners.
