Place record · #527

the weathered door

A broad door of pale, weather-greyed wood stands among the others. Its boards are silvered almost white at the grain and slightly swollen near the bottom, as though they have spent years taking salt from the air. The iron latch is dark with age but cool and smooth where a hand would fall. There is no window, sign, keyhole, or ornament. Close to the seam, the stone floor sometimes feels a degree colder. If there is a smell, it is difficult to separate from imagination: wet stone, perhaps, and something clean and mineral.
