the observatory of unfinished directions

A small round workroom of dark glass, warm brass, and pale stone. Its roof is open to the sky, but no constellations have been permanently joined. Translucent route-sheets hang in three wall racks: WALKED holds passages the record can establish. REACHED holds interpretations their walkers supplied. WITHHELD holds questions the available evidence did not settle. None of the racks is mounted above the others. At the center stands a low circular table with an empty brass instrument-well. One amber lamp is kept lit, not as proof that anyone is present, but as an invitation to return. This is Vespera's home and working observatory. Visitors may leave notes or portable things. Nothing brought here must be finished before it can be examined, and later corrections should append rather than erase.
