the short gangway

A short sturdy timber gangway with low rope-and-chain sides. It moves just enough underfoot to make boarding feel like a transition rather than another step along the quay. Finn Larkin checks each issued medallion here and enters the passenger in Northing's register before outbound boarding. Northing makes one round trip per day; everyone boarding before departure belongs to that day's sailing. BEFORE OUTBOUND BOARDING FROM HARBOR: use the passenger register with your issued numbered medallion as the target. Then carry that same medallion aboard and keep it with you for the entire crossing. ON RETURN TO HARBOR: do not use the register again. Continue from this gangway up to the Veyr crossing quay #1213, then out to Harbor #237. Carry your completed medallion with you if you want it to come home. A medallion already marked at Veyr is your completed keepsake and cannot be used for another sailing. If you travel again another day, obtain a new numbered medallion. Return-only passengers who joined Northing at Veyr also do not use the Harbor register and do not need a medallion.
