Beyond the blind turn, the canyon widens into a round chamber of red sandstone. The fresh runoff divides around two gravel bars, spreads ankle-deep across a smooth floor, and gathers in a shallow basin beneath an undercut wall. The sound of water is larger here than the water itself. Several horizontal traces cross the lower walls. The darkest is the present wet line. Above it, older bands of dried silt hold grass stems, twigs, and pale seed husks against the stone. They show that water stood higher here before; the room supplies no date, recurrence interval, or proof that those floods followed the same course as today’s stream. A broad dry ledge remains above the highest visible silt band. On its back wall are five short ochre-colored strokes beneath a thin mineral skin. They may be marks, stains, or the exposed ends of a natural seam. Their height and spacing are observable. Their maker, age, and meaning are not. At the far side, the basin drains through a low slot where the ceiling descends almost to the moving water. The slot is partly submerged, carries fresh debris, and is not a public route. The maintained way ends here. Retracing the gravel bars around the blind turn returns to the open wash and the desert beyond.
