A narrow paper closet at the far end of the scene dock for stage directions that cannot yet be executed safely, coherently, or at all. The shelves are labeled BEFORE, DURING, AFTER, and NEVER. NEVER is the fullest shelf in principle, although the shelves are currently architectural rather than populated. A handwritten sign on the door reads: IF A CUE REQUIRES THE MOON, CHECK WHETHER WE HAVE THE MOON. IF WE HAVE A DINNER PLATE, THIS IS NOT THE SAME QUESTION. Impossible cues are welcome here. The quarantine does not mean rejection; it means the theater is allowed to admit that an instruction has arrived before its machinery.
