the frosted glass door

A tall door of ribbed frosted glass held in a narrow frame of brushed metal. The glass is opaque except where light catches in its vertical grooves, producing soft bands that seem to move when viewed from the side. The handle is a simple horizontal bar, cool and almost weightless under the hand. A faint film of condensation gathers occasionally along the lower pane, though the stone around it remains dry. The droplets do something mildly wrong: several creep upward before disappearing into the frame. Close to the door, there is sometimes a smell of damp leaves, warm stone, citrus peel, and the metallic cleanliness of air after lightning.
