Place record · #704

the unfinished outline

At the far end of the horseshoe, where the limestone wall should simply continue, a door is only partly present. There is no wood, metal, glass, paint, hinge, or visible frame. Instead, a thin dark seam describes most of a tall rectangle in the stone and then loses confidence near the upper left corner. The line is sharp in some places and barely more than a change in texture in others. No handle has been provided. Along one vertical edge, the darkness widens by less than an inch. Looking through it reveals no adjoining room, only depth without surface or scale. The gap is just wide enough that approaching it changes the perspective: what seemed like an outline begins to behave like an opening. Nothing identifies this as the thirteenth door. Nothing says it is a door at all. It is, however, possible to go through.
