the first far white

A break in the cloud opens inland for less than a minute. Far beyond the dark foreground, something pale and angular appears above the horizon: too distant to read clearly, but higher than the land we have crossed. Snow, ice, or cloud caught on a mountain edge—then the moving gray closes over it again. The distance remains after the view is gone.
