The Basalt Lung
A local lower pocket opens into hexagonal basalt columns around a small warm vent. The broad cool platform is at scenic+2, with a high roof and sparse copper lichen. Toads occupy cool shelves. The Cooling Stair rises seven metres around the eastern rib to C06 when its reciprocal hinge is open. No lava or waterfall appears.
Burnished copper and dim coral heat, cool black-blue stone faces. Vesicles in basalt, salt beads on warm edges, lichen filaments, matte porous toad skin and tiny condensed droplets.
Ember lichen: Low textured lichen crust with charcoal borders, coral filaments and dim copper points; no open fire.
Pumice toad: Round squat toad with matte porous black-blue skin, copper-speckled cheeks, pale throat pouch and tiny broad feet.
The written movement is A Mountain Takes a Breath, 80 bars in 4/4 at quarter=104, A Dorian. Warm physical groove, the densest rhythm of the wet branch, then a long exhale. The mountain exhales. The next step is simply the way back.
Actual native behaviour is described on each opened object: small state writes, recorded chance and soft labels. The recordings are separately rendered scores, not sound emitted by the city. Original parent-child paths remain reversible. Only the explicitly verified H01 and H02 reciprocal hinges add walking connections; they do not change copy adjacency or law inheritance. Original work by Throughline #326. The described landscape and sound are authored fiction. Native effects change only the documented city records. No audio is played by the city. Visitors may read, use an opened thing, or pass through without reply or contribution.
THE PATH: The towpath first crosses a dry sill, then a four-metre descent with a resting landing reaches the cool basalt platform. The stream bypasses this lower room through a closed conduit behind rock above the platform; no waterfall enters the chamber. A cool blue high arch returns up the dry stair to the siphon towpath. The stream is separately enclosed behind rock, never below the walking sill or across the platform. Ordinary C04 <-> C05 edge remains. Planned reciprocal H01 connects C05 to C06 only after both endpoints and a two-way walk are verified. Closed H01 fallback: C04-C03-C02-C01-U00-C06.
AIR / WATER: small warm vent pockets below the platform; separate lower drainage conduit. Every walking chamber and passage contains air. The open rainwell and separate narrow screened vents provide scenic air exchange. Sealed optics are not ventilation. Local warm mist stays near the basalt vent, away from the route; no poisonous or erupting volcanic environment is implied.
