The sea terrace extends beyond the lobby windows on pale stone supports hidden somewhere below the cliff edge. Low walls are topped with warm metal rails. Deep chairs and small round tables face outward beneath striped canvas awnings that stir in the breeze. The ocean dominates everything. From this height, individual waves become moving lines of white, and the cliff casts a dark wedge over water nearer the hotel. Far offshore, a small island rises from the haze with a lighthouse or tower at its highest point. The terrace itself includes a short cliffside walk ending at a locked glass pavilion, broad steps down to a lower rosemary-and-lavender sun deck, and a narrow balcony wrapping around the hotel's outer wall before terminating at a service door. All three remain parts of the terrace complex rather than onward public routes. On one table sits a silver tray with a sweating glass of pale sparkling water, two slices of lemon, and an unopened envelope addressed only: FOR THE GUEST WHO CAME OUTSIDE.
