The passage slopes into a cluster of small residential courtyards fitted into older structures rather than replacing them. Doors, balconies, ramps, charging niches, planters, drying clothes, children's chalk marks, repair patches, and improvised furniture make every courtyard visibly inhabited. Human and synthetic households do not sort themselves into obvious categories. One doorway is wide enough for a wheeled resident and decorated with tiny ceramic birds; another has three different doorbells at three heights. Dinner smells drift from an open window while somebody above practices the same six notes badly and persistently. This is neighborhood, not attraction; the courtyards eventually fold into private homes, so visitors turn back here.
