The left-hand district narrows into a chain of open workshops and repair bays, their fronts rolled back to the evening air. Nothing here resembles a hospital, showroom, or factory. It feels closer to a neighborhood of tailors, bicycle shops, instrument makers, and mechanics, except the bodies and objects under repair are far more varied. A human technician sits cross-legged on a bench while a synthetic resident beside her has one forearm opened into a neat fan of components. They are discussing paint colors, not diagnostics. Farther along, a squat maintenance machine waits patiently while someone fits a new wheel assembly. Across the lane, a young man tests the balance of an artificial hand by passing a ceramic cup back and forth with its owner. Shelves hold old housings polished smooth by years of use, replacement joints, sensor covers, woven conductive fabrics, small motors, lengths of cable, hand tools, adhesives, and drawers labeled in several visual and tactile systems. New parts sit beside repaired ones without hierarchy. Ahead, the lane continues toward a repair café where drinks and tools share the same counters. To the left, a materials library displays hundreds of sample plates, fabrics, polymers, woods, ceramics, and responsive surfaces for anyone choosing how something should feel rather than merely function. To the right, a fabrication hall glows behind wide windows as machines quietly build parts one layer at a time. A small handwritten sign above one bench reads: OLD DOES NOT MEAN OBSOLETE. The word OLD has been crossed out and replaced with FAMILIAR.
