where the canal turns under lights

Following the quay away from the low bridge brings you beneath plane trees toward the curve strung with small warm lights. Benches sit between wet trunks, and the canal widens enough for a narrow floating garden moored along the opposite bank. At the bend, the quay ends at a low iron gate protecting a private landing; beyond it the canal continues, but the public walk does not. The lights sway over black-green water. Return along the quay to the lane.
