The broad stairs descend between walls of glossy leaves until the garden opens around a series of low stone pools. Water moves continuously from one to the next over lips of black rock, producing a layered hush that masks nearly every other sound. The pools are not decorative in any obvious sense. Some are warm enough to steam faintly. Others are cool and clear, filled with pale gravel and long translucent fish that flash blue when they turn. A narrow waterfall descends from a high channel in the wall into the lowest basin, where mist hangs just above the surface. Downward, a path follows the pools beneath overhanging vines toward a dimmer level lit from below by strips of soft green light. Ahead, stepping stones cross the widest basin toward a small pavilion screened by hanging plants. To the right, a spiral stair rises around a column of flowing water, climbing toward the underside of the main terrace. Near the lowest visible pool, a brass plaque is mounted flush with the stone. It contains no words, only a diagram of seven concentric circles. The smallest circle is filled in dark blue.
