The downward path follows the pools beneath curtains of vine until the warm garden light fades behind. The lower level is cooler, lit by narrow green strips set into the floor and by the water itself, which carries a faint blue glow along the edges of each basin. The architecture becomes more utilitarian here: dark stone, metal grilles, exposed channels carrying water from one terrace to another. Yet somebody has placed benches wherever the passages widen, and small flowering plants grow from cracks that seem too deliberate to be accidental. Ahead, the path reaches a chamber where seven vertical sheets of water fall from ceiling to floor in parallel, each entering a separate black basin. The fifth sheet is slightly warmer than the others. Behind it, visible only when the flow thins for a moment, is a narrow opening in the wall. A grated service walkway to the right follows the waterworks toward a low mechanical hum, but a locked mesh gate closes it almost immediately. Downward, a set of shallow steps continues into blue darkness where the air smells faintly of rain and iron.
