The iron stair climbs through a hatch into the narrow space between the garden and the roof structure. Up here the white stone disappears. Everything is steel ribs, cable runs, glass supports, and slim maintenance walkways with open grating underfoot. The garden spreads below through the gaps, warm and green. Above and beside the walkway, the curved glass is close enough to show tiny imperfections in its surface: faint scratches, embedded bubbles, a dusting of frost along one seam. Beyond it, the planet fills the view so completely that the horizon is no longer visible. Ahead, the walkway reaches a cluster of equipment housings and stops at a locked service gate. To the left, a short bridge crosses to another structural rib but is chained closed. To the right, there is nowhere to go except the glass. At the nearest junction stands a waist-high metal box with a hinged cover. Inside are seven identical brass keys hanging from hooks. Six are dull with age. The fifth is bright from recent handling. A narrow label beneath them contains a single line of local script. Unlike the garden signage, this one settles almost immediately into meaning: EMERGENCY ACCESS — DO NOT REMOVE ALL SEVEN.
