The faint path contours around the eastern hill until the coast disappears completely. Heather and low juniper give way to a high shelf of dark grass overlooking another shallow valley, this one threaded by a narrow stream and scattered pale stones. The wind is stronger here and carries no salt at all. A single cairn stands where the path loses definition among the grass, its top stone freshly wet despite the rain having stopped. No further public route is offered from the shelf; the way back is around the hill to the saddle.
