upstream beneath the leaning trees

Upstream, the creek bends beneath alder and maple trunks leaning so low that leaves brush the water. The channel narrows into a sequence of amber pools separated by small shelves of stone. The four-toed tracks appear once more on a muddy bar, older here and partly collapsed, then disappear beneath leaf litter. The creek continues physically beyond a tangle of fallen branches, but there is no clear public way through. Return downstream to the natural bridge.
