Downstream, sunlight reaches the creek in broken flashes and the water quickens over dark stone. The channel drops through a short run of white water into a broad pool beneath an enormous redwood whose roots grip both banks. Spray keeps the nearby ferns permanently wet. Below the pool the creek enters a clutter of logs and boulders too dense to suggest a safe walking route. This is the downstream stopping point; retrace the creek to the bridge.
