A shallow seam in the basalt gathers a narrow line of rainwater no wider than a hand in most places. The water is clear enough to show black stone beneath it, with tiny grains of pale grit caught in the irregularities. The seam does not point cleanly anywhere; it bends, thins, disappears under a patch of low growth, then shows again a few paces farther on. Nothing here suggests a destination. It is simply the first small feature on the low spread that rewards looking down.
