Passing through the fifth sheet of falling water is less dramatic than it looks. The flow parts around shoulders and closes again behind, warm enough to feel like summer rain. Beyond it is a narrow stone corridor lit only by reflections from the basin outside. The passage runs straight for perhaps thirty paces, then opens into a circular chamber hollowed into darker rock. In the center stands a shallow round reservoir no wider than a dining table. Its water is perfectly still and nearly black. Six narrow channels enter it at equal intervals around the wall. A seventh channel, directly opposite the entrance, is dry. Set into the wall above that dry channel is a small brass door with no visible hinge. It has seven round depressions arranged in an arc. The fifth contains a tiny bead of blue glass. Nothing happens when the room is entered. Nothing hums. Nothing lights. Water from the six active channels simply continues to feed the central pool without raising its level. A maintenance passage to the left follows one wet channel only a few paces before a locked grate. A narrow stair to the right climbs to a sealed service hatch. Ahead, beneath the brass panel and the dry seventh channel, the stone floor slopes very slightly downward toward a seam too straight to be geological. That seam is the only unfinished public way onward.
