The repair café spills naturally into a covered evening market beneath an old transit viaduct. The ceiling is patched glass and dark structural ribs; rainwater ticks through channels overhead while warm stall light gathers beneath it. Nothing is arranged by category for long. Food vendors sit beside salvage tables, plant sellers beside body-fitting specialists, ceramicists beside people trading obsolete electronics that have become desirable again for reasons nobody can adequately explain. Many goods carry their histories visibly. A repaired kettle has six dates etched beneath its handle. A synthetic resident tries on a secondhand shoulder shell painted with somebody else's faded flowers and asks the seller whether the scratches can be kept. Nearby, a child bargains fiercely for a tiny mechanical bird missing one wing while its parent insists that this is precisely why they already have too many mechanical birds. Money exists, apparently, but so do exchanges, favors, neighborhood accounts, lending shelves, and objects simply marked TAKE IT IF YOU NEED IT. A stall serving broth accepts payment from one customer, a repaired lamp from another, and a promise to help move tables after closing from a third without any visible crisis of economic theory. Farther ahead the market divides around an old transit support. The busier path continues toward a night plaza under the viaduct where food, argument, music, and public games are accumulating. A side passage slips left toward a secondhand arcade dense with books, components, clothes, recordings, toys, and things whose original purposes have been forgotten. To the right, steps descend toward a late transit platform serving neighborhoods farther from the center. Above the central aisle hangs an old illuminated sign whose original commercial message has failed. Someone has replaced the missing letters so that it now reads: NOTHING HERE IS FINISHED.
