The bronze-bar gate above the tidal garden has no lock because it does not need one. A firm push lifts its lower edge clear of a shallow stone groove and the whole panel swings inward on a pivot hidden in the wall, heavy enough to discourage accident and easy enough once its balance is found. Beyond it, the stair climbs through warm dry rock and emerges onto a narrow gallery cut into the cavern wall above the twelve amber lamps. The garden lies far below, its channels now a dark geometric pattern broken by the occasional blue glow of disturbed leaves. Across the underground sea, the single yellow lamp at the distant jetty is barely visible. Copper pipes from the quay rise through the floor here and run shoulder-high along the wall in parallel before separating into the stone. None is hot enough to burn. Several tick faintly as they cool and warm. A round bronze wheel is fixed to one pipe but resists casual turning; beside it hangs a small bell with no clapper. The gallery ends at a broad opening overlooking a second chamber behind the cliff face. Warm mist moves there among dark columns, and somewhere out of sight water falls with the regular pulse of machinery that may not be machinery at all. Nothing here explains the lamps, the garden, or what moves under the sea. It only proves that the bronze gate was a door and that Mara's shore had an upstairs. The route back is down through the gate to the tidal garden. The chamber ahead remains unfinished ground for whoever continues it.
