Following the far rim away from the overflow notch, the water gradually thins across a broad sheet of basalt. The stone here is smoother and lighter at the edges where repeated wetting and drying has polished the surface. In several shallow pockets, tiny rust-colored films cling to the rock beneath the clear water. The rim itself is lower and less abrupt than at the high-water lip, with no second outlet visible. Beyond it, the ground rises gently into dark gravel and sparse grass rather than breaking into a channel.
