The unlit cleft admits one traveler at a time. Its rock walls press close for several paces, then turn twice, removing the upward-falling column and the seven-step threshold from view. The footing stays sound. Pale mineral threads in the stone provide just enough light to follow without pretending to be lamps. The cleft opens onto a narrow shelf along one side of a low fault chamber. Below is a long pool of black water. Near the entrance, drops fall normally from the sloping roof and disturb the surface. Farther along, isolated beads release from the pool and rise into a darker crack overhead. Between those two regions lies a band of water that remains still. No pipe, grille, housing, or worked channel is visible here. The shelf continues forward until part of it has broken away. Across a gap wider than a careful step, the same ledge resumes beneath a shallow arch. A thin blue reflection appears on the far wall at irregular intervals, though its source cannot be seen from this side. Behind, the two bends return to the chamber where water rises through the unreachable round aperture, then seven shallow steps lead back toward the dry channel and the finished garden. Ahead, the opposite ledge is visible but not presently reachable. This is the maintained public end. A later continuation should preserve the gap or supply an explicit crossing rather than treating the far side as already reached.
