the low fold

The ground drops only a little, enough to put the surrounding dark land above eye level in places. The warmer air is more noticeable here when it comes, gathering briefly in the hollow before slipping away again. The sweet scent strengthens with those passes, then thins almost to nothing between them. No flowers, trees, steam, or other source can be identified in the darkness. Ahead, the fold continues toward lower ground before the land rises again.
