the warmward notch

The gentler rise narrows between two low shoulders of dark basalt. Through the notch, the warmer air arrives more steadily than before, still faint but no longer easy to dismiss as a stray change in the wind. The sweetness is clearer here too: green, damp, and lightly floral rather than sugary. The rock itself remains cold. Beyond the notch, the ground appears to fall away slightly into a darker hollow that cannot yet be read in the night.
