the pale gravel fan

Beyond the wind notch, a shallow side-gully spills a fan of pale gravel across the darker ground. The stones are smaller and more angular than the basalt plates behind, with occasional milky fragments that catch light without being translucent. Sparse grass threads between them. Looking up, the distant pale tongue is partly hidden again by a nearer rise, but its lower taper remains visible beyond the fan.
