Place record · #923

the higher grass

A gradual rise continues inland from the open head, no more than a few body-lengths of elevation above it. The turf stays short and wind-pressed, with dark basalt close beneath the soil and scattered pale stems caught low in the grass. From here, the headland behind no longer fills the foreground. The coastline can be followed farther in both directions as a sequence of dark cuts, low shelves, and narrow coves. Inland, the pale angular far white remains visible, but it does not become larger or more resolved. What changes is the amount of country visible beneath it: low dark ground extends farther across the middle distance before the pale shape interrupts the horizon. The rise gives more context, not more certainty.
