the long bank

The raised valley margin continues beside the stream as a narrow but firm strip of turf. The water bends away and back again, leaving a shallow crescent of pale gravel on the inside of one curve. Low plants crowd the bank but remain below the knee. A few small three-toed impressions mark damp silt near the waterline, similar in size to shorebird tracks seen elsewhere on Veyr but too indistinct to identify further. Looking across the valley, the opposite side rises gently rather than steeply.
