Beyond the broad crest, the higher grass drops gently into a long shallow saddle between two low rises. The sea remains visible to one side, but the nearest edge is hidden intermittently by the slope itself; only the pale movement of wash appears in narrow gaps between darker projections of rock. The turf is thinner here and broken by flat basalt showing through the soil. Nothing marks a path. From the lowest part of the saddle, both the crest behind and the next rise ahead are visible at once, while the farther coast disappears again beyond the nearer ground. For a short distance, the route holds less view rather than more.
