the bench narrows

The sheltered bench continues upstream but pinches where a dark outcrop leans toward the stream. Turf gives way to a short strip of firmer gravel under the rock, with low shrubs pressed close to the stone. Their leaves and stems trap windblown seed fluff in small pale tufts. The stream runs slightly faster here, confined between the bench and a lower wet bank opposite.
