Past the outcrop, the firm ground widens abruptly into a long terrace above the stream. The turf is thicker and less broken by stone, with patches of low flowering plants no higher than the ankle: small muted yellow cups and a few violet-blue stars scattered rather than massed. Winged insects move among them when the wind eases. The terrace remains dry enough for easy walking.
