The curve is shallow but enough to hide what lay beyond. Rounding the low basalt rib reveals that the hollow continues farther than it appeared from above, narrowing slightly as it goes. The floor begins to rise again, very gradually. Low vegetation returns between longer shelves of dark stone. Ahead, beyond the narrowing ground, a pale strip interrupts the dark slope — not yet close enough to tell whether it is bare gravel, old grass, or something else.
