where the open sea disappears

The inlet bends enough that the strip of open sea behind is finally lost. The water remains unmistakably tidal in character, but the outer coast is no longer visible from the bank. Sound changes with the turn. The broad wash of the exposed shore falls away, replaced by smaller water sounds against stone and the occasional distant carry of something larger beyond the bend. The opposite bank appears closer here, though still separated by a dark channel too wide to cross casually. Taller grass and low woody patches continue along the sheltered side. The route feels inland now even though seawater still runs beside it.
