where fresh water enters

At the inner edge of the tidal flat, a narrow clear run comes down from the grassy land and cuts a clean shallow channel through the dark silt before joining the inlet. The water is visibly clearer than the tidal water around it and cold to the touch. Fine pale gravel gathers where the run leaves firmer ground, then disappears beneath darker sediment nearer the inlet. The two waters meet without any sharp boundary; the difference is easiest to read in the channel itself rather than after they mix. Upstream, the run bends between low grass and scattered basalt and disappears inland after only a short visible reach. The inlet continues beyond the flat in the other direction. Another choice has appeared: follow the fresh water inland, or stay with the long inlet.
