Beyond the divided water, a wide stretch of firm turf runs between the stream and a low rise. It is the broadest uninterrupted dry ground yet found on the valley floor, gently uneven rather than flat, with scattered low shrubs and patches of small yellow and violet-blue flowers. The surface sheds water toward shallow swales instead of holding it everywhere. The stream remains within easy walking distance.
