A low rise lifts from the edge of the long turf away from the stream. The ground stays firm, but the deeper grass thins among flat dark stones and lower wind-shaped shrubs. From the upper side, the valley broadens behind while the glacier route is partly hidden by the shoulder itself. Down-valley the horizon opens a little farther than it does from the turf, but no sea is visible yet. Nothing here establishes a destination; it is only the first step away from the main valley line.
